About iamproperty

As part of my sandwich year while studying interaction design at Northumbria University I worked for iamproperty at their offices in Newcastle upon Tyne to help assist with designing their brand new online agent platform for their clients.

iamproperty was founded by Jamie Cooke and Ben Ridgway, who in 2009 spotted a gap in the market for a property auction company that benefited both Estate Agents and consumers . They started the now multi award-winning iamsold, pioneering the Modern Method of Auction (MMoA).

10 years later the company is now the largest residential auctioneer in the UK, employing 180 people and working with more than 2500 Estate Agents.

Brief

The main project I worked on during my time at iamproperty was the rewrite of the L4 dashboard. To give background the L4 dashboard was on the iamsold platform. The main goal of this brief was to re-write the dashboard directly into the new iamproperty platform, the main advantage being to provide a single sign on platform for iamproperty’s multiple products.

We needed to rely on this new system to offer enhanced user experience for our customers giving an opportunity to cross sell the products that were already on the iamproperty online platform. There were many disadvantages to the old system in terms of UX, the system is outdated and the current system is not responsive.

Original design

Below are examples of the original L4 dashboard which I was tasked with updating as the main project for my placement year.

Ideation

Creating rough ideas of where we could place important elements that needed to be included on certain pages

Property profile rough ideas
Home page rough ideas
Order marketing rough ideas

Low fidelity mock ups

After finishing with the idea stage we moved on to use adobe Comp to mock up low fidelity wireframes, this was so we could give something to the in house development team so they could have a clear idea of what we need to develop in the later stages.

High fidelity mock ups

Moving on to use Adobe XD to design high fidelity wireframes so we could finalise the end product for the company’s clients.

High fidelity responsiveness mock ups

One of the biggest downfalls in the original design, and that was mentioned in the brief, was poor responsiveness of the existing system. User research conducted before the design phrase of the new dashboard revealed that clients use their mobile phone to conduct business using the dashboard so it was important that we worked to ensure that the responsiveness of the platform was the best it could be.

Looking back

Overall I was pleased with the result of this project. It gave me invaluable experience working in a team within an office atmosphere and I was able to fully understand how a real life project works. I was also really proud that I designed and helped bring to life a online platform that will be used by thousands of retail agents across the UK. Click below to see the result
